How do I get a library card?

Your UCSC photo ID card is your library card - you activate it at the Library Circulation Desk.

Once your card is activated the barcode becomes your login for access to electronic journals and article databases from off campus. Your barcode also lets you checkout books and request material from other libraries via our Interlibrary Loan service.   More information about other types of borrower categories is available.

How long is my card good for?

A UCSC ID card with a current quarter validation sticker is valid until the beginning of the following quarter. Additionally, the library card is considered valid through the summer if the student was registered during the Spring Quarter, except graduating students whose privileges expire at the end of the quarter during which they graduate.

How long may I check out books for?

  • 3-week loans for Undergraduate 
  • 1-year loans for Graduate Students
     

How many books can I check out?

There is no limit to the number of items that may be borrowed.

How do I renew library materials?

You have a number of options to renew your library items.

How do I place a hold or recall library materials?

There are several ways to place a hold on an item.
