ELIGIBILITY

California Public Libraries:

Free loan service is available for circulating materials and photocopies.

In State, Out of State and Foreign Libraries:

Loan service is available for circulating materials and photocopies for a fee, unless you have a reciprocal loan agreement with UCSC.

Individuals:

Loans are not available. Contact your local public library for information regarding interlibrary loan.

Corporate Libraries:

Loan service is available for circulating materials and photocopies for a fee.

MATERIAL AVAILABLE FOR LOAN

LOANED ITEMS ARE SUBJECT TO RECALL AT ANY TIME

BOOKS:

• One year loan
• Non-renewable for all libraries

• Reference material does not circulate

JOURNALS:

• We do not lend bound or unbound journals

DISSERTATIONS AND THESES:

• Available for loan
• Archival copies do not circulate
• Senior theses do not circulate

NEWSPAPERS:

• We lend microfilm if a circulating copy is available
• Library use only
• Limits on number of reels loaned may be imposed
• Three weeks use

MICROFORMS:

• Most are available for loan
• Three weeks use

MEDIA MATERIALS:

• Videos (VHS) for loan (if they circulate)
• Three weeks use
• Non-renewable
• LaserDiscs, DVDs, CD-ROMS and sound recordings do not circulate

GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS:

• Available for loan (if they circulate)
• Three weeks use
• Non-renewable

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS:

• Generally not available for loan. Special loans subject to approval by collection manager on an item by item basis.
• Loan period determined by Special Collection manager
• Non-renewable in most cases

MAPS:

• Maps are not handled through the Interlibrary Loan Office. Please contact the Maps Librarian at maproom@ucsc.edu

MAILING SERVICES

• All UC returnable items sent via Accurate
• MOBAC affliate returnables sent via MOBAC courier
• All other materials returned via trackable Fed-Ex

FEES

There are no charges for California Public Libraries or libraries with a prearranged reciprocal agreement.

CALIFORNIA LIBRARIES:

• Loans: $10.00 loan fee
• Photocopies: $10.00 + tax for requests not exceeding 50 pages total

OUT OF STATE LIBRARIES:

• Loans: $20.00 fee
• Photocopies: $10.00 for requests not exceeding 50 pages total

FOREIGN LIBRARIES:

• Loans: $20.00 fee
• Photocopies: $10.00 for requests not exceeding 50 pages total

PAYMENT:

• We encourage libraries to use IFM as means of payment
• Invoices are sent with material if IFM is not an option
• We do not accept payment by credit card or vouchers

LOST ITEMS:

• Your library will be charged a minimum of $125 per item lost while out on interlibrary loan, plus additional processing fees.
• UCSC does NOT accept replacement copies for lost items.
